No enforcement renunciation requirement Russians after naturalization

Generally, individuals who naturalize as Dutch citizens must renounce their original nationality or nationalities. Due to the current political situation in Russia, Russians who have become Dutch citizens through naturalization are encountering difficulties renouncing their Russian citizenship. For this reason, the IND will not enforce the renunciation requirement for this group for the time being.

This means that, when submitting an application for naturalization, a Russian citizen must still complete the declaration of intent, but the IND will not check whether the person has actually renounced their Russian citizenship after being granted Dutch citizenship. For now, this procedure for Russian citizens will remain in place until 30 October 2026.
