Treaties with America, Japan, Turkey
As of 1 January 2020 family members of entrepreneurs who have residence permits based on the DAFT or the Japanese-Dutch Trade agreement, or family members of Turkish entrepreneurs, are free on the Dutch labour market: they can take up any job they want. If you still have a residence permit with a restricted labour market notification, please contact Vera Kidjan or Elles Besselsen.
We will gladly assist you with changing this status.
Japanese-Dutch Trade agreement
For Japanese nationals it is less complicated to obtain a residence permit to start a business in the Netherlands than for other non-EU nationals. This is due to the Japanese-Dutch Trade agreement. For any other type of work, Japanese must obtain work authorization.
Specific rules might still be available to Japanese chefs. For more information, please see the conditions for the Asian catering industry here.
