In Het Parool: response to bill to extend naturalisation period

“If foreigners are only allowed to naturalise after ten years, this will only slow down their integration.” This is the response of Danielle Snaathorst, Leonie Haenen and Elles Besselsen to the outgoing cabinet’s bill to extend the naturalisation period from five to ten years. Their opinion piece was published last Friday in Het Parool.

The article discusses the outgoing cabinet’s political agenda and argues that naturalisation has a positive effect on labour participation and integration. The proposal will not limit migration, but will restrict the rights of people who have been part of Dutch society for years, they state.

Danielle, Leonie and Elles call on voters to be critical and not to be misled by symbolic politics in the upcoming elections.
