Temporary residence permit for displaced people from Ukraine after March 4, 2027

The temporary protection for displaced persons from Ukraine will end on 4 March 2027. After that date, they will most likely receive a so-called ‘transition document’, a temporary residence permit that will be valid for three years. Those who had temporary protection before a certain date are eligible. The exact date will be announced later. This has been announced by the caretaker government.

To be eligible, the asylum application must furthermore be withdrawn and there must be no threat to public order. The IND will provide the transition document automatically; no application procedure is required.

Displaced persons from Ukraine will have to take out health insurance themselves and will in principle no longer be entitled to shelter provided by the State. In addition, the statutory tuition fees apply to the transition document.
