Effective June 11, Ukrainian citizens with biometric passports will no longer require visas when travelling for short stays of up to 90 out of 180 days to all EU Member States, except for Ireland and the UK, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

The EU Court of Justice has delivered an important ruling on the residence rights of parents without a residence permit who are primary caregivers of Dutch children on 10 May 2017. The verdict is named after one of the parents who had brought the case to the Court of Justice: Chavez Vilchez.

The Modern Migration Policy took effect on June 1, 2013. One part of this big change to the Aliens Act was that a residence permit could be refused if incorrect information was submitted. According to another provision, this ground for refusal can be enforced for a period of 5 years. That would mean that if someone were to submit faulty information, according to the IND, in the course of his or her family reunification procedure, (regarding work status, for example) they would have to live apart from their family for 5 years.

According to Dutch law, you automatically lose your Dutch nationality when you live outside of the EU for more than 10 years. For this reason, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not consider the passport applications of a number of people.

Until 13 December 2016 you were only eligible for a residence permit or temporary status if the medical treatment you required to avoid a medical emergency did not exist in your country of origin. IND did not research whether you would actually have access to the treatment. For instance, it did not matter if you could not afford the treatment.
