Since the introduction of new rules for pardon permit holders on November 1st, 2021, a dozen or so applicants have been refused a Dutch passport. According to Vera Kidjan, this number will probably increase in the coming months.
The rejections surprise lawyer Vera Kidjan.
“I have to conclude that it is still being made impossible to obtain Dutch citizenship, notably for persons who came to the Netherlands as a child. And parents of children who did already become Dutch. These people are being rejected under the pretext of ‘considerable doubt’. Which is a rather vague criterion to come up with just now”, says Kidjan.
