More than 8000 holders of a Ranov ('pardon') residence permit can expect to receive a letter from IND over the next few days.

With this letter they can visit their local council hall to apply for Dutch citizenship.

After previously exempting minors with a Ranov permit, from November 1st, 2021, also adult Ranov permit holders will be exempted from the requirement to submit a passport or birth certificate with their naturalisation request. In a lot of cases this group of people did not have access to these documents. As a result, Dutch citizenship was not within reach for them, not even after decades of legal stay in the Netherlands.

Finally now there is a perspective on a way out of this situation.
