This 5th of December is a very special day. We are not only celebrating Saint Nicholas in the Netherlands (that is an old man with a white beard on a white horse, throwing presents through chimneys assisted by his helpers). We are also celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Dutch American Friendship Treaty (DAFT)!
The DAFT gives American nationals more lenience in obtaining a residence permit based on self-employment.
After the first cultural shock regarding our rather bureaucratic Dutch system (compared to the American system), most American entrepreneurs become attached to our small country.
Initiating the process is still a bit of a hassle and if you do not know the Dutch system, there is a good chance that you will get bogged down. Of course, we are happy to assist you in avoiding the pitfalls and to ensure the procedures run as smoothly as possible.
Over the last three years, we have seen an increase in numbers of American entrepreneurs who are seeking residency in The Netherlands based on the DAFT.
We had 160 American entrepreneurs who filed a DAFT application in 2014, 240 in 2015 and 310 in 2016. This information is based on numbers issued by the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Department.
We are looking forward to the numbers for 2017...
