It is still possible for Dutch nationals to return to the Netherlands together with non-EU (including British) family members after having resided in the UK prior to Brexit.

The main conditions to bring family members to the Netherlands are:

  • You and your family members have lived in the UK for at least 3 consecutive months
  • You lived in the UK before 31 December 2020
  • You and your family member stayed legally in the UK during those 3 months
  • You and your family member had a family tie on and/or before 31 December 2020 and continued to have it since

If all these conditions are met, the family member of the Dutch national will be granted a residence permit document.

In practical terms: the family member will be exempted from the civic integration exam, does not need an entry visa (mvv) and can await the decision on the residence permit application in the Netherlands.
