Integration not mandatory for Turkish residents

The Central Council of Appeal has decided that the Netherlands is not allowed to require Turkish residents in the Netherlands to follow an integration course.

Earlier, the regional courts in Rotterdam and Roermond ruled that mandatory integration for Turkish residents violated the association agreement that exists between Turkey and the EU. The Central Council of Appeal has now confirmed these rulings. The Central Council is of the opinion that it is forbidden to distinguish between Turkish residents and EU-citizens. No further appeal is possible: the Central Council is the superior court in matters such as these.
