EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding warned the Netherlands that the EU Directive on the free movement of persons must be respected. She was referring to plans by Minister Henk Kamp of Social Affairs to deport unemployed Poles receiving benefits, or those who are a social nuisance.

Reding said that if the Netherlands does not comply with the EU Directive the European Commission would let themselves be heard "loud and clear''. “All EU member states are equal, and the rules are clear'', said Luxembourg's European Commissioner.
