| Stricter standards for civic integration exam as of April 1st, 2011 |

The requirements for passing the Dutch inburgeringsexam taken overseas are set to be significantly raised as of April 1st 2011. As of that date the norm for spoken Dutch (Gesproken Nederlands) will be raised from A1min to the level of A1. Furthermore, a test for Literacy and Comprehension (Geletterdheid en Begrijpend lezen) will be added to the exam. The current exam on knowledge of the Dutch will remain unchanged.
Individuals wishing to remain in the Netherlands for a longer period of time will require a visa or temporary residents permit (MVV). One of the ways in which an MVV can be acquired is to pass the civic integration exam, the inburgeringsexam.
